The Derriscaderos Natural Monument of Tenerife
The Derriscaderos Natural Monument is located in the of Granadilla de Abona, in the south of the island of Tenerife.
It is a natural area of Tenerife of great scientific, geological and geomorphological interest. The result of the Explosive Eruptions was the cause of the creation of this Natural Area.
In this landscape of volcanic origin, you will be surrounded by the spectacular pumice stone, with its peculiar light colors.
Tenerife experienced its last eruption in 1909 and it was as a consequence of the Chinyero volcano. It was an eruption that lasted ten days, it did not cause damage to the population. It seems that it was more explosive than they came to think. His ashes were scattered throughout areas of the island where up to 215,000 people live.
Los Derriscaderos is a Natural Environment with a Typical Vegetation of the volcanic environments of Tenerife: the tabaibas or cardones.
They usually occur from the coast up to 700 meters above sea level. They are xeric shrubs adapted to drought, strong winds and constant sun. Among them are numerous endemisms throughout the island.
