The Malpaís de Güímar Special Natural Park is a natural área located in the south part of Tenerife, in the town of Güímar. It was designated as a protected area of ecological importance in 1987. A board of trustees was also formed in 1989 to manage and oversee the use of the park.

The Volcanic Landscape of Malpaís de Güímar: A Result of Recent Geologic Activity

This natural park covers approximately 290 hectares and is an volcanic landscape formed by a cone of considerable size and a series of lava flows that advance towards the sea.

The materials that originated this landscape are basaltic in nature and have a geological age of less than 5,000 years.

Exploring Malpaís de Güímar: Gran Montaña, Lava Flows, and More

Older volcanic features like Montaña de la Mar and Las Morras del Corcho are visible in the park and have not been covered by vegetation. The highest point in the park is the Great Mountain (276 meters), which was formed by the accumulation of volcanic materials.

The Malpaís de Güímar Special Natural Park is an protected área in south Tenerife that covers around 290 hectares. It has a unique volcanic landscape with a large cone and lava flows that have reached the sea. You can also find ancient volcanic features like the Montaña de la Mar and Las Morras del Corcho within the park.

The highest point is the Great Mountain, which is 276 meters tall and has a crater that’s around 300 meters wide and 50 meters deep. The coastline is curved and has multiple calm beaches with organic sand.
