In this video you can see the images and listen to the text of this article.

Discovering Pico Viejo’s Volcanic Formation

Pico Viejo, also known as Montaña Chahorra, is a volcanic peak located on the island of Tenerife. With a height of 3,135 meters above sea level, it is the second highest peak in the Canary Islands, after Teide. Together, they make up the Teide National Park, which boasts some of the most unique and breathtaking landscapes in the world.

The Formation of Pico Viejo’s Crater

Pico Viejo’s volcanic formation began around 200,000 years ago, in the center of the crater. The crater itself, which measures 800 meters in diameter, is one of the seven satellite craters that surround the volcano. Interestingly, the noses of Teide were formed in 1798 after the eruption.

The Historical Eruption of Pico Viejo

Tenerife has a rich history of volcanic eruptions, and Pico Viejo is no exception. In fact, it is home to the longest historical eruption in Tenerife, which lasted for three months. This eruption took place within the boundaries of the Teide National Park and spewed volcanic material for a long period of time.

With its unique volcanic formation and impressive height, Pico Viejo is a must-visit destination for any traveler exploring the island of Tenerife. Whether you’re a hiking enthusiast or simply want to admire its natural beauty from afar, Pico Viejo is a sight to behold.
