Roque of Garachico – Tenerife Natural Monument

Discover the Natural Beauty of Roque of Garachico in Tenerife

Roque of Garachico, is a mesmerizing islet located on the stunning north coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. This beautiful natural monument spans approximately 5 hectares and was officially designated as a Natural Area of National Interest in 1987, before being renamed as the Natural Monument of Roque de Garachico in 1994.

It is a volcanic geological formation that was created by basalt flows resulting from activity. Over time, the retreat of the coast due to marine erosion has left El Roque isolated. Despite its rugged terrain, it is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including migratory birds and endangered species such as Bulwer’s Petrel, Lesser Shearwater and Madeiran Storm Petrel.

Although the vegetation is scarce, cardones and tabaibas predominate. The walls of the Roque serve as a sanctuary and nesting place for the different species that inhabit the islet.
